Timo Maas
(The definitive Timo Maas biography)
Timo began his professional and varied Djing career 17 years ago somewhere in a bar in Northern Germany. His exceptional ability and unique style have now taken him to almost every venue that matters in the world from Germany`s Love Parade, the UK`s Lakota, San Fancisco`s Spundae, also taking in Toronto, Luxembourg, New York, Denver, London (The Galleries), Manchester, Berlin, Düsseldorf (Ratinger Hof), Frankfurt (Dorian Gray), Switzerland`s Energy Parade & Rave, Sensor in Zurich and the beat goes on...
It is Timo`s productions (With Martin Buttrich & Andy Bolleshon) that have brought him to a wider audience however. As well as recording under his own name for HOPE recordings his monikers include ORINOKO for Sony Germany (recently to be found in the billboard charts), Kinetic A.T.O.M., and many others.
His musical style, both as a dj and as a producer covers many bases from Breakbeat to House through to Techno and Trance with an underlying emphasis on a broody funky workout that has made him on the world`s most respected and sought after DJ`s, equally at home playing alongside Carl Cox as Nick Warren as Da Hool!
Further Timo stuff:
A strong character, he walks into a room and you know he`s there, his Djing style is the same. Stand on a dancefloor with your eyes closed and you`ll know when Timo starts playing even if you`re never heard him before.
Timo`s first gigs in the UK and his absolute involvement with HOPE recordings and HOPE management came as a direct result of hearing one of his early productions „Die Herdplatte“, one of those „what the fuck is this record“ moments where everything you`ve previously heard all evening pails into insignificance next to what you are hearing now.
He is a powerful force, who rewrites our concepts of genres and he doesn`t play house, trance etc. but plays astoundingly good and different dance music which tears up on the dancefloor and tears at your soul.
His productions do the same, tightly compressed a Timo Maas track or remix will rip through the beats of its predecessor so that you know it`s one of his, as Nick Warren said (paraphrased) „...you can always tell a Timo track, they all start with the same impressive drum sound“.
His vibe and his music are now an integral part of HOPE recordings and both parties have helped put each other on the map!
