ISLAND BEAT CARIBBEAN DANCE PARTY
On the Caribbean island of St. Kitts John Francis, takes another step forward in the quest of establishing a secured infrastructure for production, publishing and distribution of music in the region.
DanceBEAT Caribbean a new record label, established in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis last July, is the Caribbean division of DanceBEAT Records, Sweden; a music company that have released productions of Scandinavian artists, DJ’s and producers since 1989. (www.dancebeat.net)
The aim of DanceBEAT Caribbean is to produce, publish, distribute and develop music for artists of the region.
“I have seen many incidences where Caribbean artists have moved to Europe and the US to gain recognition for their art. So I said to myself, go and get the talent from the source”, explains John Francis; himself a native of the beautiful island of St. Kitts.
The first release from the new label is a full length CD called “Island Beat vol. 1”
It is a compilation of radio hits; recent Carnival Road March hits and roots reggae songs originating out of St. Kitts and Nevis. Titles such as “Peoples Sugar” by Nu Vybes, “Wave Your National Colours” by Small Axe and “Border Line” from Crucial Bankie gives this compilation a balanced repertoire of quality songs.
“The Island Beat project is making musical history by being the first official recording that features artists of the Federation on the same authorized compact disc. We are hoping to release at least four volumes per year under the “Island Beat” project.
Our aim is to make island music more accessible to stores, DJ’s and radio stations, tourist and the general buying public within the region.
Also to have a product made to the standard that could give artists and musicians the possibilities to be marketed internationally within the music industry.” Says John Francis the label owner.
Release date for Island Beat vol.1. Is scheduled for Friday 6th December 2002. DanceBEAT and its sales and distribution operation Caraibe One Music Services has developed a firm business relation with Signature Vacations. The Canadian based Tour Operator has made a deal with the distributor to supply copies of the “Island Beat” CD to be made available for their clients visiting the Caribbean.
“A deal such as this gives the label the confidence needed to take the bold step in these uncharted waters and high risk venture of manufacturing CD’s for this region. We look forward to a bright and adventurous future for the label and all the artists, musicians and producers that work with us,” concluded John Francis.
CARIB-POP IS HERE
After achieving various levels of success with the label, artists and producers on the international music scene, label boss, John Francis, is now set to face the challenge of developing young talent from the Caribbean region.
Since the start of this millennium John Francis has scouted the Caribbean for talent to form the basis of artists that will pilot his latest venture.
“I am looking to create a new genre of music. It’s called Carib-Pop: The new sound of the Caribbean.
Carib-Pop is a style of dance music that draws from the culture, history and fashion trends of the Caribbean.
“I envisage a time quite soon when the term Carib-Pop and the music that goes with it, be as synonymous to the region as reggae has become.” says John Francis.
“To give the project the start it required, the multi-instrumentalist producer Jazzique Cheverton was taken on board as house producer to put his creative skills on the first batch of artists to be released on DanceBEAT Caribbean. When I arrived in the Caribbean I knew that my first priority was to find a musician that could understand and also interpret my A&R requirement for the artists we were soon to work with.
I found in Jazz not just a multi-instrumentalist but an excellent producer having the knowledge and working experience of digital recording techniques comparable with what I was used to work with in Europe”
Continues John Francis.
Scheduled release out on DanceBEAT Caribbean will be a single from Asha. Born in Canada of Kittitian parents, Asha and her family now live in St. Kitts. It will be this talented fifteen-year-old’s first release on CD.
This debut song “Always” was written by a team of Swedish songwriters that include Paul Rein who have recently written and produced international hits for artists such as Christina Aguilera.
Concludes John Francis:
“We are attempting to create our own brand of popular music that would appeal primarily to the youth of the Caribbean. There is a lot of imported Pop, Rap and R&B in the region. We are hoping that we can make new music and develop young artists from the youth culture of the Caribbean that ordinary young people can identify with and eventually look up to. I am confident that if we can please the ears and win the hearts of West Indian youth, we will be good enough to capture other international markets and develop a new generation of world superstars. A new genre of music now co-exists alongside Reggae within the region. “
Carib-Pop is born!
ASHA ROCKS THE DANCE FLOORS
Asha new single "Always" is rocking the dance floors of Sweden.
Soon it will master the airways.
New music project is launched in the Federation of St Kitts, Nevis.
New music project is launched in the Federation of St Kitts, Nevis.
After over 15 years in the music industry, returning national John Francis has established the first international record label on St Kitts, Nevis.
With his DanceBEAT Records and affiliated companies, the face of Caribbean music is set for a complete lift.
"We have over the years made firm contacts and contractual relationships within all aspects of the music industry. We are in a position to offer artists, musicians, songwriters and managers’ professional advice and talent development covering the full scope of the professional marketing of music, songs and dance.
"That means that artists within the region can expect local, regional and international representation in matters of production, publishing, management and distribution.
We can also offer international consultation for artists, musicians and songwriters already having management representation." explains John Francis.
Currently DanceBEAT Records and its five sub-labels have existing contracts with major record labels such as Universal, EMI, Sony and Zomba
A dynamic website at www.dancebeat.net and deals with the largest music portals on the internet such as e-music.com gives the project prominent presence in the world of digital distribution of music.
On the publishing front DanceBEAT artists have the assurance of copyright protection through Impact Music Publishing which is a company set up by John Francis at the beginning of his professional career.
To date Impact Music publishes over 200 titles by some 50 writers. Many of these songs are released by major record labels.
The first song I ever published was a song called “Nyah Luv” by Steel Pulse; at the start of my music business career, during the days when I managed that band.
"All songs I publish are registered and controlled by international copyright agencies such as British based Performing Rights Society and Mechanical Copyright Protection Society.
"For the first time musicians in the Federation have been given the opportunity to have their Works protected and tracked for payment via professional international representation.
This comes at a good time in light of the new intellectual copyright laws recently introduced into the Federation.
"There is a lot of work in front of us. We see a bright future for the art of popular music in the region and later on the international scene. This is the start and we are confident of a bright, creative and successful future for the label and all its artists."

A update from Jesse Saunders
Happy New Year!
I played in Los Angeles in front of 10,000 people at theSports Arena. This was the kickoff for the Y2K Tour, which features the release of my new album The Real Story. I'm attaching a promo photo which was taken during the New Years event at the Sports Arena. I did a special Y2K Intro which will be featured on the tour. This is how it unfolded:
As we come to the end of the 20th Century we must take stock of a period that brought more progress than any other; telephones, cell phones, pagers, faxes, television, motion pictures, automobiles, airplanes, wireless radio, computers and the ultimate form of global communication...The INTERNET! It is because of the latter 2 that our very existance could cease to be...life as we know it could end right here, right now!
What brave souls we all are to be gathered together to witness the dawn of the new MILLENIUM. We could be taking our last breath, dancing our last dance, feeling our last emotion and thinking our last thought... Right here, right now!
The only thing that can save us is the MUSIC! Music has been there to>save mankind since the beginning of time. Our beloved HOUSE MUSIC was born in JANUARY of 1984. Our time is measured in BH and AH. That's Before House and After house. It could all end right here, right now!
Take a look within yourself, each and everyone of you, and ask yourself truthfully, are you Y2K ready? Have you repented for all your sins? Have you been saved? We'll find out in the next 10 seconds...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1...
BOOK YOUR DATES EARLY. My schedule is already filling up. I'm available for dates beginning FEBRUARY 25, 2000.
